Information about date rape

Mostly acquaintances, friendships and dates do not produce acts of violence, but at times when sex occurs forcibly between two individuals who are familiar to each other, it is termed as acquaintance rape or the date rape. The crime related to date rape has become prevalent as of today, and information about date rape makes you get equipped with precautions to thwart such crimes.

In the recent past, a new type of rape threat has been found to haunt the many campuses, parties and nightclubs, which are known by the term of ‘date rape’ drugs or ‘predator’ drugs, which makes you incapable of asserting yourself and refusing things that are not acceptable to you, and which has been put to use to commit rape. The date rape drug can affect the behavior and the judgment of a person to put him at risk for unwarranted sexual activity. The victim is rendered unconscious, and at the same time is responsive with no or little memory when the drug is found to be active in the system.

These drugs include marijuana, alcohol, ecstasy which is a club drug, antihistamines and the sleeping pills, but the ‘date rape drug’ is a term referred to drugs like Gamma Hydroxy Butyrate, Rohypnol and Ketamine Hydrochloride. Make sure to protect yourself from being rendered a victim to such drugs by following a few precautionary measures.

1. Never accept drinks offered by other people.
2. Have your drink with you at all times and carry it wherever you go.
3. Never share drinks nor drink from open containers. They might already have drugs mixed into them.
4. If an individual is going to offer a drink at a party or in a bar, accompany the individual to order, and take a look at the drink when it gets poured to carry it yourself.
5. Never drink anything which smells or tastes strange, as the GHB sometimes tastes salty.
6. Always have a friend who doesn’t drink with you, to ensure nothing unpleasant occurs.
7. If you feel that your drink has been unattended by you for sometime, never consume the drink.
8. In case you feel drunk when you haven’t consumed alcohol, or feeling stronger effects of alcohol than your usual experience, seek help immediately.

As instances of such forced sex occurring between two known individuals have been reported, the information about date rape serves to imbibe some precautionary measures to prevent an individual from falling a prey to such unpleasant incidents.
